We Need your help

The Brain Bus provides services for any Alaskan, regardless of their ability to pay because brain injury does not discriminate and only impact those with money or insurance.  For us to do this, we rely on volunteers to provide services and grants to cover some expenses.  The rest of the support comes from you and your community.

The Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority has provided us with a grant to get us started and on the road. Now we need to hear from you.

We need community

  • We need your help to identify areas of need which the bus can serve.
  • Let us know if your community needs help so our planners can begin to determine where the bus needs to go when we are ready to hit the road in 2022
  • We serve not only those with TBI, but their families, friends, employers and health care providers.
  • We can serve anyone regardless of their ability to pay.  We can also serve Veterans, Indian Health Service beneficiaries, those on Medicare or Medicaid as well was private insurance or no insurance at all.
  • We need you as an TBI advocate for your community.  We can help train you and provide you with resources to make this happen.

We need individuals

  • We need a graphic designer to help us with a logo.
  • We need legal assistance in setting up our non-profit status.
  • We need clinical volunteers to staff the bus.  In the past, we have used Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Vision Therapists, Speech Therapists, Nurses, Doctors, Counselors and Social Workers to run outreach clinics.
    • We are happy to train you if you are interested but do not have experience with brain injury.
    • We welcome students in any of these professions.
  • We need planners to help reach out to communities and organize visits.  Hopefully, we can have one or two of these in every community.
  • We need expertise to help with bus maintenance.
  • We can use skilled volunteers to help with many bus build-out related tasks. If you have skills, let us know.

We need things

  • We need 2 x 20 pound propane tanks.
  • We need someone to help weld up a mount for the generator.
  • We could use an electrician to check the 120V system
  • We can use a plumber to consult on some upgrades
  • We will need fabric for upholstery and curtains as well as foam for cushions

We need financial support

  • We need monetary donations to cover the expenses of operating and maintaining the bus.
  • We have started a GoFundMe campaign to make it easier to donate. You can find that here or click on the link above.
  • Thank you!
